The 12th is closing in and though there’s a lorra other extra work (what I call the jobs that aren’t music, music is THE work) rehearsals are running smoothly and oh I do look forward to them all day! And with summer rehearsals, we got to take our coffee break outside in beautiful Lidköping, very appreciated! I say: if you have the opportunity, do so! Nothing clears your head and lets you walk in there again with a fresh mind quite as much! 🙂
21st of June marks the beginning of summer, so it’s officially here since a few days back! The summer solstice and the week after are great days to venture into new projects and bring some light into your life. Herbs like vervain and lavender help you focus, in tea, cooking or just putting a wee bit on a candle and burning it.
With the beginning of summer, apart from my own musical plans, of course gigs sneek in. Another one coming up July 25th! Stadsträdgårn Lidköping.
Rehearsals are on the go, just waiting for a poster from camp Nimmt Zwei, and if I don’t see you on the 12th (Glädje 2 Skövde, with Nimmt Zwei) I hope to see you on the 25th! 🙂
Got the most awesome review of the EP Animalic in Zero Music Magazine and I just have to share! 🙂
It’s in Swedish, but sooo good! The reviewer says all he wants now is a full length cause he can’t get enough. Very happy! 😀
It’s hard being away from your babies, in my case the pianos, while out on vacation, my recent one to Gdansk, Poland. There are alternatives. They’re of course not as good, but can help with the worst withdrawal symptoms. Any instrument you play there’s a good app for your smartphone, and if you’re not big on surfing abroad they usually don’t require it. I’ve got one called Betterday Wireless Piano, and it works pretty well for me. Of course playing keys mainly, it’s not gonna be absolutely sufficient, but I think you’ll find just a little plonking satisfying and hey, it’s still vacation, right?
For the two-hands-playing-properly withdrawal I’ve got something simply named “Flexible Piano”, popping at about 50 euro. Again, the sound is not fantastic, but it really gets the job done when you need to play. I packed both my app and my foldable.
There’s always research to be done too, I pack my h2zoom dictaphone and look for typical, but for Sweden atypical sounds. Like the Ratusz bells in Gdansk. They have a very distinct sound and even play melodies. I got me a good recording there, even with the fadeout. Can be good to include, you’ll find a less cut-off sound ringing (pardon the pun) so much better.
And just looking at the street musicians. Not allowed anymore in not so culturally friendly Sweden (compared to other countries, I’m sorry, this is my opinion). I was so impressed. I was like “Whoah, I’m not good enough to be a street musician here!”. They made two instruments sound like an orchestra, and there was even a very skilled string quartet in the corner of old city one day!
And honestly? The cheap instruments! Play with them, try ’em out, see if something tickles your fancy. They may not be expensive pieces, but they can produce the most original sounds!
So you see, there’s a way to get to that music and tap into its power everywhere! 🙂
Oh yeah, there’s a surprise treat for you in the middle!
All in all it went well but I can do better. I had basically no monitor (audio onstage so you can hear yourself and what you’re playing and singing). I’ve learned from this not to be a typical timid woman (born and raised y’know) and instead demand proper monitor. Because sound was stressed out and not communicating, something I’ve comfortably gotten used to. Plus virtually no soundcheck, something I’ve comfortably gotten used to as well 😉 . The best course of action would’ve been to, between songs, like the hiphop man act before me, raise my voice to sound booth and say: “Up the monitors, up song and piano” til I was completely satisfied. Tight packed program or no, a few, maybe at the most up to thirty seconds that would’ve made the performance go one up.
So yeah, I’d say, I can do one up on both piano, song and inbetween chat, I was just a bit floored and a bit too wimpy I think. Gig and learn! 😀
Still a supercool crowd and supercool reactions to my little surprise treat. You can’t see this in the video, but the glasses lit up and flashed and blinked ;D Aren’t you curious now? 🙂
Afterwards we wen’t out for post celebration food and of course, we joined the crowd at Andra Långdagen for that. Oh, maaan, Gothenburg was chaos yesterday! 😀 Extra thanks, not forgetting my brilliant bass lady Silja and human metronome Robin, to Lottie and Saga for drawing art on my body and making it pretty. And keeping our little crew good company! 🙂
Tonight’s the night! Tonight at about 7.45 me and za crew takes the stage in front of that beautiful, massive rainbow flag! 🙂 Regnbågsscenen, don’t miss it!
While I’m sitting here tingling from anticipation and possibly a little hungry for my breakfast egg, it’s a good time to be announcing the next one!
July 12th. It will be epic. I join together with rock group Nimmt Zwei for an evening of rock, pianos and possibly some surprise appearances that’ll blow your mind 🙂 Skövde. Glädje 2. Friday. Clear your calendars please, and check us out on facebook if you be curious:
